For such a large car it can definitely hustle.

That one on the right, my brother-in-law had one, and I was disappointed by how slow it was. And struck by how stiff and big and old-fashioned accelerator pedal was. In the end, that car went to the scrap lot, because something in the air conditioning broke and it was literally thousands of dollars to repair. And it required high octane fuel...

Well at least you are trying to combat your bad luck with some pretty reliable vehicles.

The 19 98 was, according to Lexus, the world’s fastest production sedan.

“disappointed by how slow it was”

Must have been broken.

It was for a few months and then the E39 M5 came out and ate its lunch (until it broke down)

Strangely enough, the M5 is probably the most reliable E39.

Stiff gas pedal and just not a lot of oompah. Probably a heavy car, too. Clunky leather seats. Just not overly pressed.

If it was indeed the same bodystyle as mine then it made 290hp and 300lb-ft and runs somewhere around 14.8 in the quarter. Decently quick, especially for 1998. Though it sounds like you’re describing an earlier one which is down a gear, down 40hp, and has a stiffer cable throttle vs being drive-by-wire.

Damning with faint praise!

It sounds like you know much more a bout this than I do and it sounds like you know what I might be talking about. I just found the thing not appreciably fast and it required 92 octane gasoline. There was probably a JDM version with less added-on junk that I’d have liked better.
